Muninn
Project type
Memory, Recycled Material Art, Trash Art, Bryce Canyon National Park
Recycled mixed media sculpture | Ripped canvas, donated acrylic paint, plastic bags, bubble wrap, plastic-coated cardboard, vinyl records, and copper wire
Muninn is a sculptural homage to memory, grief, and transformation, inspired by the mythological raven of Odin and a personal moment of connection in Bryce Canyon National Park. In Norse mythology, Muninn represents “memory” and flies the world gathering knowledge for Odin. After releasing my mother’s ashes, a raven lingered nearby—its presence a quiet companion during a time of remembrance. This piece embodies that moment, with salvaged materials—plastic bags, vinyl records, and copper wire—forming a raven in flight. Like the wind that carried her ashes, Muninn carries the weight and freedom of remembrance. It is a symbol of the enduring bond between mother and child, and the way memory travels through time, spirit, and sky.
