Marshall Road Elementary Recycled Art Project
In partnership with the 6th grade class at Marshall Road Elementary School, I led a school-wide recycled art project that culminated in a life-sized roadrunner sculpture and two collaborative murals. Over three months, students collected discarded plastics, metal, fabric, and household waste to use as art materials, learning firsthand about sustainability, reuse, and creative problem-solving. The sculpture was built on a welded metal armature, then covered with mesh and plastic and embellished with repurposed objects using screws, glue, and wire. In addition to the outdoor sculpture, each 6th grade class created two large murals using recycled materials, one hangs in the school cafeteria and the other along the schools fence and playground. The entire school participated in collecting materials, and the project was unveiled during 6th grade graduation as a celebration of student creativity and environmental stewardship.
